We are Carbon Neutral
As you know, at Vera & the Birds, our love of nature and our respect for the environment are part of our DNA. We have been working hard for a long time to bring you this great news. At last, we can proclaim that we are carbon neutral!
BUT WHAT DOES BEING CARBON NEUTRAL MEAN?
At Vera & the Birds, we had one goal: to release ZERO emissions. And we have achieved it! In short, being carbon neutral means that we have managed to offset all the carbon we have generated since we founded Vera & the Birds until today (a little more, in fact).
Through painstaking work, we have calculated the amount of emissions we produced in 2020, and to offset these emissions we have invested in an incredible United Nations project. The outcome is that we have been able to offset all the CO2 we’ve generated to date, in fact, up to 5 time more! How much is that in total? We have offset no less than 5 tonnes of CO2. Our balance sheet is beyond positive!
HOW WERE WE ABLE TO BECOME CARBON NEUTRAL?
By investing in a project we were excited about: Angkor Bio Coge (ABC). This project’s goal is to use rice husks as biomass fuel to generate electricity in Cambodia. We are thrilled!
Through this project, we are going to manage to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in three ways:
We will reduce methane emissions that are produced by decomposing rice husks.
We will partly replace the energy generated by captive diesel with energy produced from rice husks.
The excess energy generated will be channelled towards supplying the community living outside the project’s facilities.
As well as being involved in this exciting project, we are also going to be helping the community in the area to improve their economic, social and environmental wellbeing. Doesn’t that sound great?
We can definitely say that our fight against climate change is a very satisfying one and we are feeling proud about it!
OFFSETTING ISN’T ENOUGH. WE WANT TO DO MORE!
There’s one thing we are clear about. We are not going to stop here! We are aware that we still have a long journey ahead of us and that it isn’t enough just to offset CO2 emissions. After one goal is reached, many more will follow it. We aim to continue reducing our impact on the environment at the same time as we continue to offset our carbon footprint.
In addition, we intend to continue pushing ahead with all the advances we have accomplished so far. These are just some of the steps we are already implementing!
◦ Sustainable packaging. We give preference to packaging that has a minimum environmental impact, such as glass, aluminium, cardboard, etc.
◦ Zero waste range.
◦ Biodegradable formulas.
◦ Natural, sustainable and – whenever possible – organic ingredients.
◦ Low migration inks and paper from FSC-certified forests.
We are ambitious and we intend to carry on doing our bit for the planet, more and more! At Vera & the Birds, we are undergoing continuous growth, and we want you to accompany us in each and every one of the steps in this process.❤

Laura
